Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers - was born on July 8, 1989 in Paris. After relocating to Oxfordshire at the age of five, she enrolled in the Dragon School. Emma was six years old when she made the decision to pursue a career as an actress. She trained for several years at Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a full-time school of theatre in Oxford in which she learned acting and singing. In a school play and a Stagecoach show, she took the lead at the age 10, and acted. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel began casting in 1999. Casting agents discovered Emma through her Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman informed Emma, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint after auditions of 8. They were cast as the three lead characters Hermione Gringer Harry Potter Ron Weasley. Emma's first film appearance came with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). The film beat all previous records in terms of its opening and weekend ticket revenues, and was the top-grossing 2001 film. Critics have praised both the film as well as the performance by three young actors. The Daily Telegraph, a well-read British publication, has praised Emma for her performance. Emma's performance was nominated and was awarded five awards for the film.
